Job Tracker MCP Server
An open-source MCP server that lets Claude Desktop track job applications. Claude runs it as a local process and calls its 4 tools over stdio (JSON-RPC).

Tech Stack
The Challenge
Job applications end up spread across LinkedIn, Upwork and job boards, and it is easy to forget which ones need a follow-up. I wanted Claude to keep track of them for me, so I can ask in plain English instead of opening a spreadsheet.
The Solution
Claude Desktop starts the server as a local Node.js process. They talk over stdio with JSON-RPC 2.0 messages, so stdout is kept for protocol messages only and all logs go to stderr.
Tools
Claude picks the right tool from what I ask in plain English, for example "Which applications need a follow-up after 5 days?"
Validation and storage
Every tool input is checked with zod. The applied date must be a real date and cannot be in the future. Applications are saved to a local JSON file that is not committed to git.
Stack
TypeScript, Node.js, the official MCP TypeScript SDK and zod. MIT licensed, with setup steps for Claude Desktop in the README.
Key Features
- ▸add_application: saves company, role, platform, link, notes and the date applied
- ▸list_applications: newest first, 20 by default, with a "Showing X of Y" count
- ▸update_status: changes the status of an application
- ▸followups_due: lists applications still marked "applied" after a set number of days
- ▸zod validation on every input, including a no-future-dates check
- ▸Logs go to stderr so stdout stays clean for JSON-RPC
